Product Description

Ningbo Derusen’s bonded polyester sewing thread is produced from high-tenacity continuous filament polyester, then twisted and resin-bonded to lock the plies into a single, smooth strand. This bonding treatment reduces hairiness and lint build‑up on machine guides, tensioners and needles. The result is a thread that withstands high‑speed multi‑directional stitching with fewer interruptions and less dust. It is typically used where seam integrity, abrasion resistance and stitch appearance are critical—such as denim, leather goods, automotive interiors, outdoor equipment and footwear. The thread carries the OEKO‑TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, confirming it is free from substances harmful to human health.

Bonded construction and measurable advantages

Unlike standard spun or twisted threads, the bonded variant is impregnated with a controlled resin coating that binds the individual plies together. This process delivers several functional improvements:

  • Reduced friction: The coating lowers the coefficient of friction against metal parts, allowing stable tension at speeds above 5,000 stitches per minute.
  • Improved abrasion resistance: The bonded surface protects the thread from fraying when dragged across fabric edges or hardware.
  • Lower hairiness: Laboratory comparisons show up to 70% fewer protruding fibres than equivalent non‑bonded constructions, which decreases needle eye clogging and machine downtime.
  • Dimensional stability: Low elongation (typically 12–18% at break) and controlled shrinkage minimise seam puckering during washing or pressing.

The thread is available in both two‑for‑one (TFO) twisted and ring‑twisted versions. TFO twisting produces longer knot‑free lengths, a consistent surface and very few knots, making it suitable for automated cutting and sewing lines.

Other counts such as 20/4, 20/6, 20/9 and custom Tex values can be supplied. Siliconised finishes (using silicone oil sourced from Japan and the U.S., typically above 3% add‑on) are available for high‑speed lockstitch machines.

Colour range and packaging

Over 800 colour references are maintained in stock, covering a wide gamut from standard whites and blacks through branded pantone shades. Small‑batch colour matching is offered with a laboratory dip service.

Packaging formats are configured to suit manual and automatic workstations:

  • Cone: 1,000 yds to 20,000 yds (or 1 kg to 2 kg)
  • Small bobbin/cop: 50 yds to 1,000 yds
  • Customised labels and barcodes accepted under OEM agreements

Manufacturing quality control

Thread production takes place in Derusen’s own facility, equipped with precision twisting and bonding lines. Each production lot is sampled and tested for:

  • Linear density (Tex) consistency
  • Tenacity and elongation
  • Shrinkage in hot air and boiling water
  • Colour fastness to washing, rubbing and light (AATCC methods)
  • Lubricity / friction coefficient for bonded threads

Only lots meeting the internal specification are released. The in‑house laboratory maintains records linked to each batch for full traceability.

Typical application segments

Because of its high abrasion resistance and clean stitch appearance, bonded polyester thread is specified for heavy‑duty and high‑visibility seams. Common use cases include:

Denim sewing
Denim & Casual Wear
Home textiles sewing
Home Textiles
Bag stitching
Bags & Luggage
Tent seam sewing
Outdoor Gear & Tents

Certifications and compliance

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification

The bonded polyester thread is certified to OEKO‑TEX® STANDARD 100 (product class I or II depending on end‑use requirements), meaning every component—yarn, dye, bonding agent—has been tested for harmful substances. This supports compliance with REACH and other international textile regulations. The certification is renewed annually, and the current certificate can be shared upon request.

Supply chain and commercial flexibility

Derusen operates its own thread production line with a monthly capacity of 160 tonnes, complemented by in‑house dyeing and bonding. This vertical integration shortens lead times to 7–15 working days for standard specifications. OEM arrangements are welcome: private labels, custom colours, and special winding patterns can be accommodated. Payment terms include T/T, L/C at sight, and other negotiable instruments. A free sample service (pre‑pressed colour cards or small trial cones) is available for technical evaluation before bulk orders.

For detailed technical data sheets (including specific Tex vs needle size recommendations for denim, leather or microfiber), or to request a sample cone, please contact the sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions – Bonded Polyester Sewing Thread

What is bonded polyester thread, and how does it differ from non‑bonded thread?

Bonded polyester thread receives a controlled resin coating after twisting that locks the individual plies together. This treatment significantly reduces hairiness, decreases friction against needles and guides, and prevents the thread from fraying under high‑speed stitching. In contrast, non‑bonded thread retains more surface fibres and typically generates more lint, making it less suitable for automated, multi‑directional sewing lines.

Is the thread certified safe for textile products?

Yes. Our bonded polyester thread is certified to OEKO‑TEX® STANDARD 100, meaning every component—raw yarn, dyes, and bonding agent—has been tested for harmful substances. The certificate is renewed annually and supports compliance with REACH and similar international regulations.

What deniers / counts do you supply?

We stock a wide range from fine Tex 18 (Tkt 180, Cotton Count 60/2) up to heavy Tex 80 (Tkt 30, Cotton Count 20/3). Additional constructions such as 20/4, 20/6, and 20/9 can be manufactured upon request. A full technical table with breaking force, elongation, and recommended needle sizes is available in the product description above.

How many colours are available, and can you match a specific shade?

Over 800 stock colours are maintained. For special shades we offer a laboratory dip service: submit a physical sample or Pantone reference, and we will provide a lab-dipped swatch for approval before bulk production. The minimum order quantity for custom colours varies by count and packaging type.

What packaging configurations can you supply?

Standard options include:

  • Cones: 1,000 yds up to 20,000 yds, or 1 kg to 2 kg per cone.
  • Small bobbins / cops: 50 yds to 1,000 yds.
  • Custom labels, barcodes, and brand‑specific winding patterns are supported under OEM agreements.

Can I receive a sample before placing a bulk order?

Yes, we provide free sample cones or colour cards for technical evaluation. The customer covers the courier cost, or freight can be arranged collect. Typical sample preparation time is 1–2 working days for stock items.

What is the typical delivery time?

For stock shades and standard counts, finished goods usually ship within 7 to 15 working days after order confirmation. Custom colours or special winding may add 3–5 working days for lab‑dip approval before the production lead time begins.

Can the thread run on high‑speed automatic sewing machines?

Yes. The bonded coating reduces the coefficient of friction, allowing stable tension at speeds exceeding 5,000 stitches per minute. Fewer loose fibres also minimise needle‑eye clogging and dust accumulation on machine parts. We recommend following the needle size guide provided in the technical table above for optimal stitch formation.

Where are your threads manufactured, and do you accept OEM orders?

The bonded polyester thread is produced in our own factory located in China. We welcome OEM orders: private labelling, custom colour names, and customer‑specific winding lengths are all possible. Our minimum order quantity varies by product, but small‑batch trials are generally supported.
