Product Description
Spun polyester sewing thread is constructed from high-tenacity polyester staple fibres that are ring‑spun or two‑for‑one (TFO) twisted into a continuous yarn. Unlike continuous filament threads, the spun construction creates a fibrous surface that mimics the hand and stitch appearance of cotton, while delivering better resistance to abrasion, chemicals and UV exposure. The thread is available in over 800 colours and multiple ticket sizes, from Tex 18 to Tex 80 (cotton counts 60/2 to 20/3). It is suitable for lockstitch, overlock and coverstitch machines running above 4 000 spm, provided the correct needle size and thread tension are used. All Derusen spun polyester threads carry the OEKO‑TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, confirming they are free from harmful substances and safe for garments worn directly against the skin. Construction and twist types
Spun polyester thread can be produced with two twisting technologies:
- Ring‑spun (non‑TFO): traditional twist insertion that yields a softer hand and higher bulk, often preferred for general garment sewing where stitch appearance closely resembles cotton.
- Two‑for‑one (TFO) twisted: the yarn receives two twists per spindle revolution, producing a smoother, rounder thread with fewer knots and lower hairiness. TFO construction is recommended for automatic sewing lines, denim topstitching, leather goods and any application where reduced lint and machine stoppage are critical.
Both versions are available in the same tex counts and colour ranges. The choice between ring‑spun and TFO depends on the required balance between aesthetics, seam strength and machine cleanliness.
